Company Information

Shanoon Resources Limited (SRL) plans to reopen the Galmoy Mine to recover significant quantities of remaining ore. An exploration programme for the area will identify further ore that can be recovered in addition to the known reserve.

The ore in Galmoy is rich in zinc, lead and silver, which are vitally important to support the transition to the low carbon economy. While reuse and recycling is fundamental to the low carbon economy, a fact that is recognised by the EU and the Irish government is that recycling alone will not be sufficient to provide the mineral that is required to reach carbon emission reduction targets.

Ireland’s policy on minerals (last updated 25th June 2021) states that – ‘A wide variety of minerals are important, sometimes critical, components of ‘green technologies’. Achieving Ireland’s national climate and energy targets, such as 70% electricity production from renewable energy sources and one million electric vehicles by 2030, requires the adoption and deployment of ‘green technologies’ to generate power from renewable sources, battery storage and implementing other system changes to support transport and electricity grid infrastructure’.

SRL is proud to be progressing this project to supply raw materials to support the low carbon economy, as well as the provision of a significant number of rural based jobs. SRL is committed to employing as many local people as possible in the project both during construction and operations. The company is also looking forward to working with the community and providing support to local community projects.
