Alan Buckley, F.C.A, Dip IoD, Managing Director
Alan is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience, over 25 of which are in the Mining Sector. Alan began his career with PwC and worked in Ireland and the U.S. in the insurance and agribusiness sectors. From 2001 to 2016, Alan worked at the Lisheen Mine for Anglo American, and subsequently Vedanta as Finance Director and General Manager. During that time Lisheen was the 5th largest zinc mine globally. From 2011, Alan was responsible for the marketing of zinc and lead concentrates for Lisheen and was also responsible for putting together the legal and administrative framework for the Ore Transfer Agreement with the Galmoy Mine.
John Güven, BSc. Geology, Chief Geologist
Geologist with over 30 years experience in the Irish Zn\Pb orefield. John worked at Lisheen from 1997 to 2015 and was Chief Geologist from 2008. He was responsible for resource extension, definition and estimation and for ensuring the maximum extraction of the reserve through a combination of grade control and detailed mine geology. John’s involvement in the ore transfer from Galmoy to Lisheen has given him a detailed understanding of the Galmoy orebodies. John recently ceased employment with iCRAG, the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (lead by Prof. Murray Hitzman) where he was a technical specialist, providing input to base metal research projects, particularly those pertaining to the Irish Orefield.
Nick Brett, BSc. (hons), ARSM, Technical Advsior
Nick has over 25 years of experience in mining, through consulting, operational leadership, study management roles and due diligence, project valuation and M&A activities across a range of commodities including gold, copper, iron ore, manganese, diamonds, nickel, coal and, more recently, battery metals. He has worked for both mining consultancies and minor and major resources companies, beginning his career with Golder Associates and then working for SRK Consulting, BHP, Rio Tinto and Xstrata among others. Nick holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Geology from London’s Royal School of Mines at Imperial College.
Stephen Wheston, MSc, Dip Applied Science, Dip Health & Safety - SHE Manager
ESG Professional with over 25 years of experience, 20 of which are in mining. Stephen started in the chemical industry as an Environmental Monitoring Chemist. Stephen joined Lisheen Mine in 2003 and held a number of senior roles including Safety, Health and Environmental Manager. He was responsible for implementing the successful Lisheen Mine closure and has been involved in the site redevelopment. Prior to joining Shanoon in a full time capacity Stephen was a Director of Tembusu Ltd, a consultancy providing sustainability support to extractive operations in Ireland and overseas.
Hannah Boult, ACA - Financial Controller
Hannah trained as a chartered accountant in a mid-tier firm in London with clients from a variety of industries. Post qualification, Hannah worked with Accenture for 2 years, then with Ocean Partners UK Limited where she spent 3 years gaining knowledge in commodity trading. Ocean Partners are a shareholder in Shanoon and Hannah worked on the Shanoon project before moving to Shanoon full time in early 2024.
Stephen Smith - Chartered/Registered (Irl) Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager
Stephen has 40 years experience (25 in Ireland) working on Mining/mineral processing and Infrastructure projects. He has design, procurement, project and construction management expertise with an extensive range of contacts with the Irish and International supply chain. His key focus is on developing project budgets and schedules, driving value for money and managing project risk throughout the project life-cycle. He has an excellent record in delivering projects within the cost and schedule constraints.
